How do I register a child to begin kindergarten this coming year? When is kindergarten registration and screening?
In the spring of each year, kindergarten registration and screening is well publicized and held at Nicklin Learning Center. Families make appointments for their soon-to-be kindergaraten students. Those families who do not register their children in the spring "round-up" should begin the registration process at the district's administrative offices, 719 E. Ash Street. Central registration for all students K-12 takes place there. Go to "New Student Registration" on this website to find out more. After registration is complete, an appointment will be made for kindergarten students' screening at Nicklin. Your child must be five years old prior to August 1 to register. During your one hour, your child will complete the kindergarten screening process which includes: speech, hearing and academic screening.
When enrolling a child in kindergarten, you must provide the following:
1. A copy of the child's birth certificate.
2. The child's social security card.
3. Current immunization record.
4. Proof of custody, if applicable.
Every child must have a physical prior to entering kindergarten.
