News from the Nurse

Flu Prevention Facts:

Remind your children of the importance of washing their hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub. We have germicide dispensers in our cafeteria to assist in this effort.

Remind your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils, and to cover their coughs and sneezes. Covering up their coughs or sneezes using the elbow, arm or sleeve instead of the hand will help prevent the spread of germs.

Remember the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea.

Please keep sick children at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have fever or do not have signs of fever, without using fever-reducing drugs. Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who might be infected.

Just a reminder…Students may not carry Medications with them while at school. Any medication,  including prescription or over the counter,(including cough drops), that needs to be given at school must have an "Authorization to Administer Medication" form completed and on file in the Nurse’s Clinic.

Welcome to Piqua High School

Welcome

I am excited and pleased to have been selected as the new principal of Piqua High School. My name is Tony Lyons and for the past fifteen years, I have been a teacher, coach and most recently, assistant principal of PHS. As a graduate of PHS, I am passionate about the success of our schools. I am looking forward to working with the students and families of the Piqua community to provide a high quality education, as we are all partners in the academic growth of our students. We share an important and unique mission, which is to prepare our young people to be leaders of the 21st Century.                         Mr. Lyons

Flex Credit Option

Flex Credit Option

Per Ohio Revised Code and Piqua School Board policy, Piqua High School allows students the opportunity to experience learning and the acquisition of skills through instruction or study outside of the traditional classroom.  Credit flexibility options are designed for those students who demonstrate the ability, interest and maturity to accept personal responsibility for their learning in a selected curricular area and are willing to pursue it beyond the typical classroom setting.  Any student interested in participating in the Credit Flexibility option for the 2010-2011 school year should see their counselor prior to May 15th.

PHS Reminders

Cell Phones

A reminder to students that cell phones are not to be used during the school day.  The only exception is phones may be used during their specific lunch periods  (A,B, or C) only.  Parents please assist us by not calling or texting your students during the school day.  Ask your son or daughter what lunch period they have and make contact during that half hour period or before and after school.  Your assistance would be appreciated.

Attendance

Make attendance a priority!  It is a law that every student is in school everyday.   Parents ask yourself this question - would you keep your job if you missed more that 11 days in 180 days of work?  Help PHS hold your students accountable for attendance - make it a priority at home too.

Parent Authorization Forms

All students are expected to turn in the Parent Authorization Form.  You may contact the main office for one.  Please fill out with names and numbers of adults we may contact in case your child becomes ill during the school day.
