A Note from the Principal's Office

Welcome to Washington Intermediate!

I am honored to work with the students, parents and staff at Washington.  Our mission is to create a positive community that empowers students to become life-long learners.

To help create that positive community, Washington students are trained in the six Core Character Traits of: respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, integrity and citizenship.  Students have an opportunity to nominate their peers when they see them demonstrating one of the Core Character Traits.  During the morning announcements those students are recognized for showing great character.  Each month we honor students at the Right Choices Assembly for demonstrating positive character, being "on a roll" (showing improvement in 1 area), no tardies and no discipline referrals.  This is a fun assembly with music and a lot of cheering!

Washington students are also engaging in the Steps to Respect curriculum which offers education regarding bullying.  Students are taught to recognize what constitutes bullying, assertive skills to refuse bullying, when to report bullying and problem solving skills.  Students play games, role play situations, read articles and watch video clips to teach and reinforce these skills.  This is our first year of implementation and we are looking forward to increased positive interactions amongst our students as this program progresses.

I welcome you to contact me at any time to discuss your child’s progress and learn more about the wonderful things that are happening at our school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Loretta Henderson, Principal
