Ohio Graduation Tests

  • The OGTs are subject mastery tests developed by the State of Ohio. The tests are based on content standards adopted by the State.

  • All students must demonstrate mastery on a standardized test given in each of the following areas: writing, reading, mathematics, social studies, and science. The minimum score of 400 must be earned to receive proficient standing. Those who score below 400 will be considered non-proficient and will have to retake the test. Students scoring well above 400 will receive Advanced standing.

  • The first test will be taken in March of the Sophomore year. Students new to Ohio or students who need to retake a particular test will sit for the test in October. From the first test in the Sophomore year, including summer options, students will have a total of seven opportunities to pass the test prior to graduation.

Test Taking Tips

  •  Be prepared. Bring what you need.
  •  Listen and read all directions carefully before starting.
  •  Read the entire question before answering. Pay attention to words that affect the meaning of a question such as no, not, never, always.
  •  Answer easy questions first. Use logic on more difficult questions.
  •  Keep track of time. Pace yourself. Use any time at the end to check over work and answers.
